NYP QueensDr. Amanda Sacks-Zimmerman will present at this CME conference on pain managment. Millions suffer from acute, chronic, and serious illness-related pain every year, resulting in huge health care costs, rehabilitation and lost worker productivity, and emotional and financial burden for patients and their families. Pain is a uniquely individual and subjective experience that depends on a variety of biological, psychological, and social factors, and different population groups experience pain differently. At the same time, there is a serious opioid abuse epidemic. Drug overdose deaths are the leading cause of injury and death in the US. Drug abuse is a serious publichealth problem that affects almost every community and family in some way. Optimal pain management needs to integrate pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic, and integrative approaches to empower patients and providers with the most current treatment options to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Dr. Sacks-Zimmerman will participate in an interdisciplinary panel (Overview of Non-Pharmacologic and Integrative Strategies) as well as leading a skill-building breakout session on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
