Dr. Bernardo Receives Grand Award of Merit from ASILM

Antonio Bernardo, M.D., Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery and Co-Director of the Surgical Innovations Laboratory for Skull Base Microneurosurgery, was a Guest of Honor and a recipient of the Grand Award of Merit at the 50th Anniversary Gala and Awards Ceremony by the American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit (ASILM) in New York.

The American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit, founded in 1965, is made up of more than 600 members who have been recognized by the Republic of Italy for outstanding achievements in their fields. Dr. Bernardo takes his place among a roster of honorees that include Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, chairman of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and surgeon-in-chief of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center; Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia; and champion race car driver Mario Andretti.

Dr. Bernardo received his M.D. from the University of Naples “Federico II,” where he graduated Summa cum Laude. In the Surgical Innovations Lab, Dr. Bernardo trains neurosurgical fellows from all over the world. The laboratory integrates exquisite cadaveric dissections, 3-D visualization, virtual reality, and computerized simulation for training of surgical procedures and visuospatial skills and to investigate new surgical routes to access intracranial targets.
