The Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center is proud to have three of our neurosurgeons included on this year’s list of Best Doctors in New York, as published in this week’s issue of New York magazine. This prestigious list includes Dr. Philip E. Stieg, chairman of the department of neurosurgery and neurosurgeon-in-chief; Dr. Mark Souweidane, vice chair of the department and director of pediatric neurosurgery; and Dr. Roger Härtl, chief of spinal surgery.

The “Best Doctors” issue of New York includes 1,198 of the tristate area’s top primary doctors and specialists, a list culled from the larger list of Top Doctors: New York Metro Area published by Castle Connolly in April. The Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center boasted six of our neurosurgeons on that list: Dr. Philip Stieg, Dr. John Boockvar, Dr. Roger Härtl, Dr. Michael Kaplitt, Dr. Theodore Schwartz, and Dr. Mark Souweidane.

Five of our neurosurgeons also appear in the highly selective Castle Connolly list of America’s Top Doctors in addition to being on the list of New York’s Top Doctors. Dr. Philip Stieg has been on both lists for 13 years in a row, and has also been on the list of America’s Top Doctors for Cancer for eight years, since the inception of that list.  Dr. Roger Härtl and Dr. Michael Kaplitt make their fourth straight appearance on the list of America’s Top Doctors;  Dr. Theodore Schwartz and Dr. Mark Souweidane have been among America’s Top Doctors for three years in a row.
