Clinical Neuro-Oncology

The Clinical Neuro-Oncology Program at the Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center offers world-class research and medical treatment for cancers affecting the brain and spine. Our experts treat all types of malignant adult and pediatric brain tumors, including primary and metastatic tumors. The program sees hundreds of patients each year with either newly diagnosed and recurrent tumors.

The program is directed by Dr. Howard Fine, who is also Director of the Brain Tumor Center in the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center and Associate Director for the Translational Research of the Weill Cornell Brain Tumor Center. Dr. Susan Pannullo, who is one of the few physicians in the nation trained in neurology, neurological surgery, and neuro-oncology, heads the stereotactic radiosurgery program. Dr. Rajiv Magge, a neurologist specializing in neuro-oncology, is also on the team, which meets weekly with the Weill Cornell Multidisciplinary Brain Tumor Board to discuss individual patient cases and develop personalized therapies for a wide variety of intracranial tumors. The Tumor Board consists of neuro-oncologists, neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, neuroradiologists, neuropathologists, and research staff.

The Clinical Neuro-oncology Program specializes in strategies for maintaining control of tumors after surgery, including radiation therapies (including stereotactic radiosurgery and brachytherapy), and delivery of drugs and other anti-tumor agents. The program also works closely with the experts in the Surgical Neuro-oncology Program, which manages the surgical treatment of patients with brain and spine tumors, and with the Cognitive Remediation Program, which can provide cognitive rehabilitation and support during and after treatment.

The program also offers a wide spectrum of brain tumor clinical trials. The Weill Cornell Brain Tumor Research Group's (BTRG) focus on translational research makes the most recent and promising investigational regimens available to patients who participate in these clinical trials.
