Dr. Stieg Named Co-PI in New StrokeNet Trials Network

Neurosurgeon-in-Chief Dr. Philip E. Stieg has been named one of five co-principal investigators in the newly created New York Stroke Trials Network of Columbia and Cornell, funded by the National Institutes of Health. The project is one of 25 regional stroke centers created by the NIH to conduct clinical trials in stroke.

The team will be led by Weill Cornell neurologist Dr. Dana Leifer, along with Dr. Stieg and Dr. Matthew Fink  at the Weill Cornell campus and Dr. E. Sander Connolly and Dr. Randolph Marshall from the Columbia campus.  A team of more than 30 researchers from both campuses will work with the co-principal investigators to run clinical trials in stroke prevention, acute treatment for stroke, and recovery and rehabilitation after stroke.

The New York Stroke Trials Network of Columbia and Cornell was awarded a five-year funding commitment; the NIH will provide $250,000 a year for the first three years.
